Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Dental implants, also known as “dental prostheses,” are an innovative solution for replacing missing or lost teeth due to various reasons. These devices are designed to integrate naturally into the mouth and improve oral health. A dental implant actually consists of three essential components:
  1. The dental implant, a small screw made of pure titanium that is inserted into the bone, remaining under the gum.
  2. An intermediate prosthetic abutment that attaches to the implant using screws, emerging in the oral cavity to provide solid support.
  3. The crown or prosthesis that is placed over the prosthetic abutment to restore dental aesthetics and function.
Dental implants are an effective and long-lasting solution for regaining a healthy and complete smile.
At Clínica Antonio Liñares, our priority is to offer our patients quality and excellence in every treatment. To achieve this, we rely on the Straumann® dental implant system, recognized as one of the most successful worldwide. With over three decades of scientific experience backing it up, long-term studies have shown that Straumann implants maintain an astonishing survival rate of up to 98%. This high level of quality allows us to provide our patients with a reliable and long-lasting solution. In addition, the Straumann system offers a versatile and proven range that stands out for its excellent characteristics, both regarding soft tissues and bone, ensuring the highest quality care in every treatment.

During the initial visit to our clinic, we conduct a comprehensive diagnosis to determine the most suitable treatments for each patient. This diagnosis includes the evaluation of X-rays and the use of three-dimensional studies to determine the length and diameter of the necessary dental implant.

The placement of a dental implant is performed during a brief surgical intervention under local anesthesia. During this procedure, a bed is created in the maxillary bone to accommodate the implant.

Through a biological process called osseointegration, a solid connection is established between the bone and the surface of the implant. This process may require a period ranging from six weeks to several months. Once the initial healing and osseointegration phase is complete, a pillar is placed to serve as a connection between the dental implant and the future crown.

Dental implant procedures are generally painless, as they are performed with minimally invasive surgery and under local anaesthesia to minimise discomfort during the procedure. Mild discomfort may be experienced after implant placement, which usually resolves within a day.

To ensure a comfortable post-operative process, we recommend the prescription of appropriate medication tailored to the individual needs of each patient, depending on the specific treatment performed. This helps to reduce any discomfort and ensures an easier and pain-free recovery.

Having little bone does not prevent a patient from having an implant. There are various techniques for reconstructing lost bone.

At Clínica Antonio Liñares we perform the most advanced techniques for bone augmentation when the availability of bone is insufficient for implant placement.

The gum healing process usually takes about 4 months after extraction. If we do not replace the tooth after this time, the neighbouring teeth will slowly start to move.

Dental implants can only be used in young patients when their bones are developed. Otherwise, there is no age limit, as long as the patient has no significant health risk factors.

  • Preservation of Natural Teeth: When opting to replace a lost tooth with a bridge, it’s necessary to shave down adjacent teeth. Dental implants preserve their intact structure.
  • Enhancement of Appearance: Tooth loss leads to jawbone resorption, affecting facial aesthetics.
  • Long-Term Solution: Dental implants boast a high long-term survival rate.
